Sudoku!

Screen print

I like so many who have come before me am facinated with the sudoku idea. Something so simple just has to be beaten.

I wrote this as a challenge, but once it was nearly done I really felt it should be shared!

*new* version 2, now with added colours :)

This new version has a much better look to it, you can clear the board, reset - which removes your entries and starts again, type in some numbers off some game and select "Set as game" and the numbers will go blue so you can reset to the initial settings, and also a level setting so you can have easy, through to pretty hard where you will need to take some guesses. Finally, you can solve using pure logic only, so if the game is not solveable without guessing the solver wont find it, but, for example, all the really easy games are solveable!

Send me feedback! Please note, its still not finished, but this one looks and plays a bit nicer!

Download version 2.01. This version fixes a bug which a dear old friend of mine found. Thanks!

Theres 2 parts to this program, the first is an ability for the computer to set you a puzzle. The various levels are a little hit or miss, in that it works on a principle that very easy will be easily solveable, and have at least a given number of numbers showing. From there on up, the number of displayed numbers goes down.. The underlying puzzles are not necessarily harder persay, and in some occasions you may need to guess, leaving that arguably there is more than one answer for some of the harder puzzles. Im working to find an algorithm for it, but, lots of "talk" about them on the internet but cant actually find details of one.. Any pointers, please send them to me in the feedback box.

If you're interested in how this was made.. I may publish source later, but, the basic rules and ideas are set out here.
