Camelot muck is a text based world, its a bit like taking part in one of the old infocom games such as hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, except for the game is not fixed with a path, there are others who are in the game too, there are games like Camelot with upto 500 people also playing the same games, so you may interact with many people from many places.
Camelot itself was originally my idea after spending many hours in my younger days on a TinyMUD game at Brunel, where I wallowed away far too much of my time. The TinyMUD program is a lot more simple than the ones we have today, but the general principle is still there. I originally started building the core back in 1993/1994 when I lived with a bunch of friends in a shared house, sadly, with the cost of online prices the muck could only be on line when I was, and that wasn't long, I had built the castle, but never really did much else due to lack of use. So Camelot was dormant for a long time.
A friendly character on FurryMuck helped me move the database from the original program I had used to a newer one which allowed a lot more development from inside the game, it took me a while to get used to the new program which is called Fuzzball its suitable for any multi-user theme as it is programmable, which means there is nothing that cant be done with a bit of time and effort.
Much later, Camelot the village begun to grow a bit more so it was more than a castle, but a village, a few of my friends would come and play on it when I was online - which I could afford a bit more by this point.
Finally, in May 1998, I found a home for Camelot on the Internet so it could be online, even if I wasn't. It didn't really immediately open to the public as I felt quite ashamed that it was so small when opened to such a large possible audience. Anyway, a few people came in and slowly more grew within the muck, till Camelot wasn't the only thing there, other people put in a lot of effort and made other villages and so now, its more of a country than a village.
Present day: Camelot is still growing, it needs more people to wander and give it life, but its still young, and people are joining and are taking part in the Camelot way of life.
Hoping to see you there
Woof.
