Important Note

I much like most drivers like driving fast, however, there as always can be some consequences. On June 1st 1992 I had a very serious car accident, I wasn't speeding, the road is a 60mph road, they calculated I was doing between 40 or 50. See the before and after photos - of my car that is, no gore, the cold hard facts are that if I hadn't been driving a Cortina, I would be a red smear on the road (OK I could have a Mercedes, but at 19 who could afford one in the real world?), if both of us involved (yes there was another car) had been travelling at 60 we would also probably been red smears on the road too.

BEFORE       AFTER

As a result, I broke my right thigh very badly, and required an internal pole in my leg which only got removed due to problems, I broke my pelvis in 3 places, my nose, lost a tooth, deep cuts to my face, my left foot, concussion (surprise surprise), at one point they thought I could have brain damage - until they found out I was incredibly short sighted and so couldn't do the tests without glasses which had been lost in the accident. I was very lucky, it wasn't clever, it wasn't cool, and it wasn't funny. It changed my life a lot, and for all those around me, fortunately today I'm a healthy person with a good life, but it could so easily have never been. I have many residual problems from this accident, but on the whole nothing serious enough to stop me from doing what ever I desire to do, although I will never be able to bungy jump, do parachuting, long distance running or other such activities.

Why did I choose to put this on the www? Well, most people don't get to live through things like this - I know of people who have survived worse, but this is my life, I think you should imagine what it would be like if the two innocent people like me and the other driver were people that you knew. The accident was caused by an untraceable nasty slime ball who dropped diesel on a bend, the spill travelled over 100m down a hill, and well, I found it. Next time, it could be you, or someone you know.

You never know what's round that next bend, for me, it was nearly the grim reaper!
